This is not something which can happen to homeowners only during a tree cutting operation, this is the real deal! If you as an arborist choose to put yourself in a poor work position before you execute your work, you too can have an accident like this. Please educate yourself and train yourself to be safer, and it all starts with attitude!!!!!

I had an incident with a chainsaw only 2 days ago. All limbs still intact and there wasn’t any blood but I have chaps to thank for saving my leg. In hindsight there was a lot of factors (human behaviour, environment, training…) that contributed to the incident occuring. I planned my cuts and was moving between each one, I would always put the chainbrake on while walking betweek cuts (standard work practice) and one of the cuts for some reason either the chainbrake didn’t engage or I simply didn’t press it on but the chain was still slowing down (not reving) and it came in contact with my thigh. The chain was moving slow enough to stop and not all the fibres in the chaps were pulled but enough for me to immediately dig around in the hole to feel for a leg injury. But it didn’t cut through the chaps and all I have is a bruise. I have never appreciated PPE so much in my life and will not take it for granted ever again.

Working by chainsaws with no train, no education or no good attitude can lead to very serious consequences. Owning an adequate knowledge before using is very essential for chainsaw users.
